Services Provided
- Direct provision of computer data processing support
to ICTR investigators.
- Work closely with the ICTR Statistician to
assist individual investigators with
the initial planning and development of their protocols
in order to:
|
anticipate and define computer/data
management requirements
|
|
assure that data collection strategies are
appropriate |
|
develop protocol-specific forms and database
interfaces for timely and accurate data entry |
|
plan for data validation such as checking for missing data,
out-of-range values, and invalid entries |
-
Data Scanning. Informatics has implemented a system for
automated data input via digital scanning of custom-designed paper
forms. This system includes a high speed multipage feed scanner,
form design and character recognition software that markedly
facilitates data entry and validation. Data forms designed jointly
by the investigator and the Informatics Manager are filled out
during the data collection process. Once completed, the forms are
then scanned and the data are stored in a format designated by the
investigator (i.e. database, spreadsheet, csv file...).
-
Work with the Statistician to direct
investigators to the Informatics database and statistical
analysis applications appropriate for their research.
- Develop data scripts and automated algorithms for
routine database management. This includes developing
routines for exporting the data to other statistical
software packages as required.
Education
-
Instruct in formal courses sponsored by the ICTR
-
Instruct and assist clinical investigators and GCRC staff in the
adaptation of standard software packages such as Word, Endnote,
and Excel, which assist in conducting and reporting clinical
research (e.g. creating tables, footnotes, and bibliographies or
designing spreadsheets for calculating protocol schedules and
utilization).
-
Instruct and assist in the use of database software
for storing research data and statistical analysis
programs for data analysis and presentation.
-
Provide on-site individual and small group
instruction regarding software
updates, use of, and access to, the LAN, and
Internet resources for:
|
ICTR investigators |
|
Fellows |
|
CRU administrative and nursing staff |
Data Access Request Form
To better manage access to research data and ensure
research subject privacy, please
complete a data access request form for each individual
on your research team who
will use your data. For assistance, please contact
