General Information
The Bionutrition core of the GCRC is resourced by the Johns
Hopkins Bayview Clinical Nutrition Department.
Clinical Dietitian Specialists, a Research Dietitian and the
Bionutrition Research Manager are
available to support clinical research protocols.
The Bionutrition Manager
educates nursing staff about specific nutrition
requirements of each study that uses bionutrition services and
assures appropriate nutrient analysis and interpretation of data
is followed. The
Bionutrition Manager and Research Dietitian both administer
food frequency questionnaires, perform dietary recalls, conduct
food record instructions, and provide nutrition education and
counseling to study participants in either individual
or group formats.
The Goals of the
Bionutrition Core are
- To support the mission of the National Institutes of
Health (NIH), the National Center for Research Resources
(NCRR), General Clinical Research Center at JHBMC in providing
optimal care for clinical research.
- To promote nutrition research as part of patient care and
as a component of the research studies under investigation in
the General Clinical Research Center.
- To facilitate communication and collaboration among
individuals with an interest in nutrition and dietetic
research.
- To provide training opportunities for medical students and dietetic interns.
